Councilor Jim Slanetz

Slanetz Skate.jpgCity Council President Jim Slanetz, owner and operator of the Board Bin, is currently serving his first term on the Ketchum City Council.  The Councilman was elected in 2012 and has since been appointed as a Ketchum Urban Renewal Agency (KURA) Commissioner and liaison for the Blaine County Housing Authority (BCHA).

During his current term, Jim plans to focus his attention on making Ketchum a more sustainable City through the promotion of the green building initiative and geothermal water.  He plans to assist in the development of public spaces and finalizing a Comprehensive Plan for the City.

While Jim is relatively new to politics, he is a veteran of the area's outdoor recreation.  As an avid snowboarder, long boarder and mountain biker, Jim channels his energy into creating recreational opportunities for others in Ketchum.  His vision and passion for recreation largely drove the successful development of the Guy Coles Skate Park in 2004.

Jim and his wife, Karin Reichow, have owned and operated the Board Bin for more than 25 years.  Originally opened in the couple's garage, the business is now recognized as the longest running specialty board shop in the Northwest.

In his time outside of City Council Chambers and the Board Bin, Jim can be found enjoying fresh powder days on the slopes, seeking out good live music and spending time with his wife and children, Ziggy and Shea.

If you are interested in any of Councilman Slanetz's initiatives or would like to know how you can get involved, contact Jim by email at or by stopping by the Board Bin in downtown Ketchum.
