The Cost of Doing Nothing

The cost of doing nothing – part 1.
Although the proposal for a contract for emergency services with Sun Valley was not approved, I am encouraged by the virtually unanimous support to find some way to unify the fire and ambulance services of north Blaine County.

I don’t want this setback in the consolidation process to derail what I believe to be a fundamentally good idea with substantial benefits. Make no mistake, there is a cost of doing nothing - and that could either come in the form of an increase in our insurance premiums or a higher bond request than necessary. Please look at my guest opinion in the Mountain Express (click link below).

The cost of doing nothing – part 2.
The lawsuit that stalled our effort to secure land for workforce housing has not blunted our energy to make something happen. Rather than spend taxpayer money on fighting a frivolous lawsuit, we will look to secure land with a simpler acquisition structure. What is apparent is that doing nothing will be a cost for our town. We need a diversity of housing to remain a vibrant community. Year-round residents are of paramount importance to the health of our businesses and the vitality of our City. We cannot abdicate our valley-wide responsibility to provide workforce housing.

The Spirit of Ketchum is alive. Tonight, we will put the snow back on the streets for a festive rail jam. It is a celebration of our love of the snow, the mountains, the athletes and the culture of being an authentic ski town. So please stop by and enjoy the fun at 6:30pm on East Avenue.

Let’s not get caught in a jam, unless it’s a rail jam!
