Conservation first - saving water and energy

Water Conservation.jpg
Conservation first - saving water and energy. Our old Ketchum Springs water line has been leaking more than 300 million gallons of water a year. That is why I am delighted that we have completed phase one of the water line’s replacement.

Throughout the summer, we replaced almost 3,000 feet of old water line. This represents an annual saving of 50 million gallons and $6,000 of electricity consumption through reduced pumping charges. By the end of the project, we will reduce our annual electricity expenses by almost $40,000. My philosophy is simple: While it is exciting to consider new projects that generate alternative/renewable energy, our initial focus has to be on eliminating waste, conserving our natural resources and reducing our energy consumption. Prioritizing our limited financial resources on conservation projects not only makes economic sense and is environmentally responsible, it is also aligned with our core value of being good stewards of our land.

A tip of the cap to the Argyros Performing Arts Center. The doors opened and the band played on! Two days of free concerts featuring local artists in music, dance, theater, poetry and more showcased our talented valley and the versatile theater. The completion of the theater is a remarkable achievement by all those involved. Congratulations, well done, and thanks for bringing us this wonderful new community asset!

Holiday lighting brings back old faces and welcomes new ones. We will be turning on the lights at 4:30pm on Wednesday, December 5. Santa, looking very much like this year’s Wagon Days Grand Marshal, will be back doing his thing to launch the holiday cheer. Our first responders will deliver Santa on a fire engine to supplement many other family activities. This is another chance to connect as a community, sip some mulled wine and share stories of the epic snowfall that is coming our way … hopefully!

Cheers,
Neil
