Parking – Version 3.0

Word 10.11.18.jpg
This time, we are proposing that the first 3 hours are free. Users will still need to enter their license plate number at the kiosk, but this action will give you one additional free hour compared with the 2-hour, on-street parking bays that are in the commercial core. After the initial 3 free hours, the charge will be 25 cents per hour, so an eight-hour day will cost $1.25. Remember, there is a mobile app (WayToPark) that allows you to avoid the kiosk and do it all from your phone.

Our paid parking lot at 6th and Leadville has worked quite well with significant usage - we will continue with its current structure of 25 cents per hour in the shoulder months and 50 cents in the peak months. A reminder: Our paid parking lots exist to manage space, NOT to make money. By providing a diversity of parking, we hope to balance the needs of retailers, employees, residents and visitors.

Roads closed - everywhere. I have to apologize. All these “Road Closed” signs are confusing. We have entered the silly season of frantic civil work (both private and public) that takes place after the moratorium on road construction between tourist season and when the snow flies. Each project has to provide signage as directed by the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) but frankly, this often leads to more confusion than clarity. I ask for your patience and good humor and hope you can see the funny side of the unintended consequences of each project following the rules of ITD. Of course, this also gives us one more reason to be excited when the snow begins to fall.

I will be watching the sheep make their annual pilgrimage down Main Street on Sunday. I hope to see you out there.

Cheers,
Neil
