The Mayor's Missive || April 12, 2018

"Healthy Change Takes Time." That was all the email said - but it was the first of two reminders to me that we, as a City, need to be intentional and deliberate in our actions to affect positive change for our town.

The second reminder happened in a recent meeting with our first responders. They told me how, in emergency situations, they will still take a “procedural pause” to double check on the action they are taking. As a city, we can learn from this process by taking the time to pause and check on our own direction, no matter how fast we are trying to move.

Spring is in the air. I cherish this time, as it brings a change in pace and an opportunity to take the time to pause and reflect. I believe that most of us choose to live here because we are seeking the rhythm and balance of life in a mountain town. The rhythm that comes from our seasons and creates periods of intense activity, as well as times to breathe and be still - the balance that comes from having more time to connect with family and friends, the arts and the outdoors.

I believe preserving the rhythm and balance of life in a mountain town is important, not only to our residents, but to our city’s success as a mountain resort destination for our visitors. I’ll be taking advantage of this time to help us achieve that vision.

Have a happy spring.
